1. Is there a different credit charge for different star ratings?
This will vary depending on star/diamond ratings. Hosts shall submit the swap form applicable to their establishments Grading. On receipt of the form, the database will take care of the rest and inform both Host and Guest of the success of the agreed transaction.
2. Is there a different credit system for B&Bs and Self-Catering?
No, this system is based on trading and swapping credits. It doesn't matter who stays at your establishment, you still earn the same amount of credits. To level the playing field, those who own establishments other than self-catering would not be expected to provide meals (though this can be negotiated separately). B&B establishments will have the option to accept credits in lieu of payment for breakfast.
3. What prevents non-members from requesting accommodation?
There are checks and balances built into the system. When a request is made you must immediately ask for their Reference Number. If you are uncertain as to their legitimacy, you can check with the administrators before accepting the swap.
4. Am I obligated to accept a swap request?
No, you can accept or turn down a swap request as you see fit. We do however expect all members to accept requests as often as they can, particularly if they have open rooms available. Once you have accepted a swap it will be binding on both Host and Guest.
5. Can friends or family use my credits?
Absolutely, the credits are yours to do with what you like. However, ALL BOOKINGS need to be made by the registered owner of the establishment. The registered owner takes full responsibility and will be held liable for any damages or claims of misconduct of friends or family they have sponsored.
6. Do I need to use all my credits at once or at one place?
No, you can book into a number of different places for however many days you choose.
7. Do I have to accept guests for a full 12 days?
You can have "guests" for as many, or as few days, as you choose. If you choose to host for only two days, then you will accumulate two days of "credits". You can determine your own level of participation.
8. Do I have to host the same people I stay with?
No. The person you stay with earns "credits" which are then "banked" for their own use whenever they choose. They can then stay with any other member at a time convenient to both parties.
9. What happens if I terminate membership or sell my establishment?
You can terminate your membership at any stage. There are no refunds on credits or your yearly subscription. If you sell your establishment, the new owner must register as a new member. Existing members who sell may be able to continue as a "Loyalty Member" under specific conditions, allowing them to use their remaining credits.
10. Can I get more credits if I run out?
Yes. You can earn five bonus credits (and R500 cash) for every new member you refer. Alternatively, if you have a good record and have been a member for over a year, you may apply to Admin to purchase credits when your balance is low.
11. Can I accumulate credits and use them years later?
Yes, provided you remain a fully paid-up member. If you resign your membership for any reason, you will lose all your credits.
12. How many credits should I charge per night?
This varies by star rating:
Up to 3 stars:
0.5 credits per person per night (e.g., 2 people = 1 credit).
4 and 5 stars:
1 credit per person per night (e.g., 2 people = 2 credits).
Entire Cottage/House (Lump Sum):
Take the total commercial nightly rate and divide by 800 (e.g., R2400 / 800 = 3 credits).
13. How do I track my credit balance?
On the page for choosing an establishment, click on the dropdown button called "important usage links" and choose "my credit balance". Please also keep your own records, as our database only stores forms for up to 3 months.
14. How do you prevent fraudulent use of my account?
There are stringent security checks. You will be given a unique reference number and password. The registered person is solely responsible for the security of their login details.
15. What happens if a booking is a "no-show"?
Let us know and we will take disciplinary action against the member. We will still credit your account as though the swap had taken place.
16. Can I charge for services like cleaning?
No. The system is based on a totally cash-free stay. Only breakfasts, other meals, or other activities can be negotiated separately for payment with additional credits or cash.
17. How much does it cost to join?
On registration, there is an initial joining fee plus a proportionate subscription fee for the months remaining until May. After that, a low annual subscription fee is payable in May. Please see the joining fees table for details.
18. How do I register?
If you've seen enough and want to participate, go to our Registration page and follow the procedure. Once processed, you will receive a confirmation email with your unique reference/PIN numbers and 6 free credits to start trading immediately.
